Our team at Jolly Family Dentistry cares for your baby and their smile, which is why we are here to give you the tips you need to take care of their little chompers. So, in order to help your child grow into the strong, beautiful, and healthy smile they deserve, we recommend doing the following things:

· Clean your baby’s mouth before the teeth even move into place. You can clean the gums with a moist gauze pad or washcloth. This will help remove the plaque that threatens your child’s smile each day.
· When your child’s teeth grow in, begin brushing them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. As you brush, only use a small amount of toothpaste. We generally recommend only using an amount the size of a small grain of rice.
· Between the ages of 3 and 6 years old, add a little more toothpaste so it’s about the size of a pea. You can let your child brush on their own, but please supervise as they do so. We also ask that you keep your child from swallowing the toothpaste.
· When two teeth grow in next to each other, it is very important that you floss between those teeth at least once a day to free food particles, complete the cleaning job, and eliminate plaque.

We also recommend that you bring your child into our office to see Dr. Rebecca Barfield 6 months after the first tooth has grown in and no later than your child’s first birthday. The American Dental Association recommends doing so so your child can have the successful oral health they deserve. If you would like to know more, please call 501.228.6360 today!
